Raw America visits ICE detention center amid hunger strike
Raw America reported that detainees in Unit Four of a Pennsylvania ICE detention center initiated a hunger strike that grew from about 70 participants on Thursday morning to roughly 100 by Friday morning. USA TODAY's tracker shows at least 48 people have died in ICE detention facilities nationwide. Acting ICE director Todd Lyons announced his intent to resign and told federal lawmakers that at least 44 people died in custody since he began his acting tenure in March 2025. The strike and the mounting death toll have intensified calls for congressional oversight and accountability of ICE detention practices.
