Blue Sky Art Show, theme 'Odd'

Blue Sky Art ShowApr 25, 202637926,650

An orange rising moon that looked like an aardvark anchored a literal, pareidolic reading of oddness. Others framed oddness as playful intervention, such as a cow mounted on a pole atop Islay Hill peering through binoculars, while a three-headed taxidermied fox brought a curated, uncanny oddity.

Sketchbook page of blue pen drawings of 3 Shoebill Cranes. The text Shoebill and 6/7/25 are written at the top. On the left is a tall Shoebill standing and looking at the viewer straight on. The text "Man in a bird suit?" is written on the right of the bird. The top left is a flying Shoebill. The bottom right is a closeup of a shoebill with its mouth open, and the word Muppet written above it's back.

At the top of a large hill, at the end of the hiking trail, is a brown and white cow attached vertically to a pole looking through binoculars. The hill has dry, dark brown vegetation. In the distance are hazy mountains, and the sky is a combo of blue and spotty clouds. The sun is illuminating the cow's belly, so the cow is looking into the direction of the morning sun. Bare winter tree branches silhouetted in dark black against a foggy gray sky, shot from below looking upward. The sun, diffused through dense morning fog, appears as a soft bright disc in the upper right, surrounded by a wide luminous halo that fades gradually into the flat gray atmosphere. A diagonal branch cuts across the left side of the frame, drawing the eye inward toward the light. A second tree anchors the right, its fine bare twigs weaving around the glowing sun. In the lower right, the faint ghostly outline of a structure emerges from the fog. The overall mood is quiet, melancholic, and otherworldly — a winter morning caught between darkness and a light that hasn't quite decided to arrive yet.

A stunning peacock standing in a residential driveway with a grass strip in the middle and on the side of the driveway. He's facing left and his tail feathers are not up. His tail feathers blend in with the grass, but his bright blue neck and head pop. You can see the bottom of the house next at the top of the photo.

Head on photo of a Blackish Oystercatcher, Haematopus ater, standing on black peat (I wrote sand yesterday but its peat 🙄) at the edge of Beaver pond (no beavers in the Falklands 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🤷🏻‍♀️ ) Sealion Island, in the Falklands. the front and head of the bird is all black with a bright red long beak and bulbous bright yellow eyes that give it a perpetually surprised look. The eyes have yellow eyes have a black spot at the nasal side. Interestingly all species of Oystercatcher have this Iris appearance tho not all individuals show it within the species.

A tense little power meeting is underway. Rose, on the left, holds her end with calm authority—the unquestioned alpha, steady and unmoved. Ruby, on the right, isn’t pretending this is friendly; lips slightly curled, teeth on display, making it clear the partnership has limits and terms. And then there’s Bleu. Positioned below like a strategist who prefers results over noise, he studies the situation with sharp focus. His eyes track the stick, his jaw already lining up the move. No rush—just timing. One slip, one shift, and control changes hands. Rose stays composed. Ruby reinforces the warning. Bleu waits—quiet, calculating, and absolutely convinced this stick will be his.
