Red Sox fire manager Alex Cora

The Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora and several coaches Sunday after a rocky start to the 2026 season. Team president Sam Kennedy emailed the decision and Cora replied overnight to that notice. Infielder Trevor Story called Craig Breslow's explanation for the firing unsatisfactory and said he will demand a meeting with Breslow before today's game. The abrupt shakeup creates immediate uncertainty for a struggling club and forces the Red Sox to reset leadership as they try to salvage the season.

Chad Tracy, now in charge of turning around the Red Sox, is as the 19th interim manager in the Divisional era. Only one of the previous 18 interim managers produced a winning record the rest of the season: Billy Martin went 91-54 with the 1985 Yankees after replacing Yogi Berra.
