On April 25 in the Clementine Hall of the Apostolic Palace, Pope Leo XIV received Members of the European Parliament for his first meeting with MEPs. He told MEPs that faith should form political beliefs rather than be used to justify them, and he urged politicians to let faith shape conscience while exercising critical thinking. He added that teaching must form people to listen to the heart and cultivate inner freedom, saying faith and reason neither ignore nor oppose one another, a framing that matters because MEPs help craft EU legislation on moral and social issues.
