House passes Republican farm bill, moves to Senate
The U.S. House approved a GOP-crafted five-year farm bill, 224-200, on Thursday and sent the package to the Senate. The bill includes a 'Save Our Bacon' federal preemption clause that would invalidate existing state and local farm animal welfare laws. It also includes changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program that would alter how food assistance is administered nationwide. The measure now faces an uncertain path in the Senate after years of stalled negotiations, leaving its major animal welfare and nutrition changes unresolved.
House passes the Senate-approved DHS funding bill by a voice vote. It funds everything in DHS except ICE/CBP, including TSA, FEMA, Coast Guard, CISA. This ends a 75-day shutdown. Bill now goes to Trump to become law. www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...
Remember when trump promised to not sign a single bill until the Save Act becomes law?
So a complete cave from the GOP, since that’s for sure what the framing would be if this went down the other way around.
Only a start. All of DHS needs to be shut down. They are absolutely part of the assaults on our citizens and our rights
Good job @schumer.senate.gov & @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social. You absolutely thrashed the House GOP and its titular leader.
They are planning to try to get ICE/CPB funding through a reconciliation bill to bypass the Dems… it’s not over…
And every Democrat should be constantly pointing out that the House republicans simply sat on this Senate approved bill for however many days leaving TSA, FEMA, Coast Guard and CISA without pay to just end up approving it. All the while continuing to get their own paychecks.
We would all appreciate MORE "leftist" (🤣) media coverage of this major fail by Maga-Mike. He dragged his feet for 4 weeks, bringing hardship on TSA and air travelers alike. Minimal media coverage of Maga-Mike and Trump abandoning their shutdown position!
Good. Now ABOLISH ICE @democrats.senate.gov @housedemocrats.bsky.social @democrats.org WE DID NOT SAY REFORM.
I'm certain that Trump will be screaming through the night. We need our non-white immigrant friends.
I can see Trump not signing it out of pure spite. I know, what a weird idea!!!
I'm waiting for Trump to veto it because ICE isn't being funded through it.
Credit where credit’s due: this is a huge W for Chuck Schumer.
Didn’t ICE get billions in funds already?
BREAKING: The House just voted to remove the pesticide provisions from the farm bill that would have protected Bayer from lawsuits over cancer-causing glysophate in Roundup. The amendment passed 280-142.
supreme court rules 6-3 you have to drink round up because its got what plants crave
Just clarifying, this is a win for the people, right?
Wait from this phrasing, this means Bayer *can* be sued over cancer-causing right?
Best news of the day!!! Someone post even better news!
Take note of the 280 Yays: A significant number of Democrats are in favor of protecting Bayer too.
This is good news. But I hate legalese. Good god. How many negatives are allowed in a sentence?
THESE REPUBLICANS TRULY ARE TRYING TO KILL US.. ALL IS THE NAME OF MAKING SURE THE RICH CEO'S CONTINUE TO GET RICHER🤬 i mean seriously we're just collateral damage if we die because of their greed😡
Excellent news. I’m still going to vote to have every single republican and democratic traitor removed. I want them out.
We’re are in the middle of stagflation and Congress does this?! How does this help with food security given stagflation and how everyday Americans are hurting to pay for food? US House passes ‘skinny’ farm bill that keeps big GOP cuts to food assistance www.newsfromthestates.com/article/us-h...
Rather than have farmers grow food and distribute it to people who need it they will just pay them to not grow food. Is that right?
Whatever happened to "promote the general welfare?"
Democrats from some of the poorest states voted against their people, a five-year farm bill? Was this so that ICE and CBP didn’t get funding?
Most poor people on assistance are in red states.
The eugenics of Republicans is to starve the poor as they pretend they care about farmers and people in rural America. Why do people continue to believe this is okay because they don't see that it directly affects them?
Who were the Dems that crossed the line ?? We need names if any did.
Of course. Starve the kids, enrich the grossly wealthy. How very Christian of these ghouls wearing crosses.
One thing that most overlook is SNAP is a big source of revenue for the entire ag supply chain: farmers, manufacturers, retailers.
I see the usual Dem suspects voted for this bait &switch bullshit. This is like when the GOP removed $150 bil in rural health provisions in the BBB & then bragged about giving $50 bil to rural health. It's like... hello... there's plenty of us in the country who can still fucking add & substract.
This is what farmers voted for, a long vacation from farming! Guess it worked? Call me when the riots start!
135 House Republicans voted to keep liability protections for pesticide companies in the Farm Bill (136 if you count “independent” Kevin Kiley who caucuses with Republicans). I don’t wanna hear anything about MAHA from those folks. Those 6 Democrats need to be voted out of office too.
Those Democrats being Bishop, Cuellar, Davis, V. Gonzalez, Gray, Johnson. Unconscionable.
This why you should always watch your politicians closely then bust their ass make them get back to district for reviews a failure by we the people!
Not justifying their vote, but guessing most are from the farm belt and knew it would pass without their vote. Unfortunately that’s how the game is often played.
angie craig just voted NO on an amendment to the farm bill allowing hot rotisserie chicken to be bought by people using SNAP angie craig doesn't want poor people to have access to hot, quality, already prepared and ready to eat foods, and she is running for US senate as a DFLer
I will make it my duty to let people that come to my store's deli know this fun fact btw
It was good that she voted no. The bill is absolutely terrible. Yes they are allowed to buy that chicken now but far fewer people will have access to snap and everyone will get less money. They want you to talk about the chicken and not all the cuts to the program. bsky.app/profile/maur...
Fetterman of the North strikes again
She must know she’s going to lose lol
Why does she hate one of the only kinds of chicken that actually has flavor?
