House passes Senate-backed DHS funding bill, ending partial shutdown

The House approved the Senate-backed Department of Homeland Security funding bill by voice vote and sent it to the president for signature, ending a 76-day partial DHS shutdown once signed. The package funds most DHS components, including FEMA, TSA, CISA, and the Coast Guard, while excluding funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and parts of Customs and Border Protection. Restoring funding restarts pay and operations for disaster response, airport security, and cyber defense, but the ICE and CBP carve-outs guarantee immigration policy fights will continue in upcoming negotiations.

🚨🚨The DHS shutdown is OVER. By voice vote, the House has just approved a Senate-passed DHS funding bill, which funds everything at DHS (TSA, FEMA, etc.) except for ICE and the Border Patrol. The House initially refused to approve this plan 35 days ago.

Whew, glad (& pleasantly surprised) to learn that ICE & Border Patrol stayed out of the funding bill. Interesting that it was just a voice vote. I may send an email to my House GOP Rep directly asking if she voted for or against it. The GOP can't seem to understand they can't hide from us anymore.

Today the House passed a DHS funding bill by voice vote. Let’s be clear: I would’ve voted NO. The bill does not include reforms or guardrails, it gives permission to transfer funds to ICE and CBP, and continues to allow DHS to manipulate emergency authorizations and abuse our data.

So this shutdown ending bill funds the Coast Guard, TSA, Secret Service, FEMA and CISA along with some funding for DHS The ICE funding will need to be passed separately and Republicans have a plan for it

Now congressional Republicans turn their attention to enacting tens of billions
of dollars for Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a
party-line package. They jump-started the process this week with the adoption
of a framework unlocking special budget power to skirt the Senate filibuster.

Trump is demanding that bill, which would fund the controversial agencies for
the remainder of his term, land on his desk by June 1. ICE and Border Patrol
have been operating largely as normal during the shutdown due to funding
previously provided in last year's GOP megabill.
