House passes Senate-backed DHS funding bill, ending partial shutdown
The House approved the Senate-backed Department of Homeland Security funding bill by voice vote and sent it to the president for signature, ending a 76-day partial DHS shutdown once signed. The package funds most DHS components, including FEMA, TSA, CISA, and the Coast Guard, while excluding funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and parts of Customs and Border Protection. Restoring funding restarts pay and operations for disaster response, airport security, and cyber defense, but the ICE and CBP carve-outs guarantee immigration policy fights will continue in upcoming negotiations.
A win! Thank you for always making your voices heard. The House passed a DHS funding bill by voice vote this afternoon, ending a 75-day shutdown the longest agency shutdown in U.S. history. The GOP caved. The bill funds DHS but includes no money for ICE or Customs and Border Protection.
Yes! The ICE reforms that Dems are asking for are common sense! The GOP simply doesn’t want to risk upsetting Dear Leader! Keep digging your heels in, Dems - methinks the GOP is on a collision course with a midterms disaster and beyond if they can’t locate their fucking spines!
Trump does not have the political capital with congressional Republicans that he had two months ago. They are finally starting to see he’s a liability.
The DHS funding bill passed without a single dollar for ICE.
A huge win at that. When Democrats use their political power instead of just laying down they can have big wins.
Voice vote because no GOP want to be on record?
That's why Democrats gotta "hold fast" and give them nothing!
DHS & ICE don’t need anymore money. They’re already loaded.
Great news! So glad to see progress on this. 🎉
Small point: I'd like to suggest that when we win, we don't say the other side "caved." I knew a prominent conservationist years ago who advised to always catch the opposition in the act of doing something right. And then praise them in some way. That way you're not putting them down.
Meanwhile, the Farm Bill will be causing people to starve.
Rather misleading...they are going to get what they want with reconciliation. I can't wait for November. Then they will get what they deserve.
Huge collapse by Mike Johnson and the Republican majority in the House. They literally get zeroes next to ICE and CBP on the bill that is now heading to Trump. He might as well have admitted that he and they were the only reason TSA workers weren't getting paid.
Yes! After midterms we will abolish ice entirely.
I thought I read on SKY that the rePUKElicans did some mumbo jumbo in the late night/wee hours of the morning to fund ICE?
*slow clap* for finally ending the shutdown. Though I don’t think DHS should be funded either.
Well, good news insofar as it puts a choke chain on those domestic enemies (ICE). I hope the Dems don’t stop there, because it’s not enough. Nobody in America is safe until ICE is permanently shut down.
At this point, maybe we should we stop funding doj, fbi, secret service, scotus … None of them are driven by justice or democracy or basic decency. They’re rogue actors.
Republicans already did an end run to give ICE more money, I believe. Isn’t this just a moral victory, which isn’t good enough since it doesn’t stop ICE from terrorizing our communities?
Those agencies already got their money. Later this year, they will be awarded more funds because of some ‘national emergency’. Wink, wink, nod, nod.
Um, the GOP separately increased funding for ICE in the middle of the night a short time ago. Not much of a win.
A bit of good news, if one is not a Nazi?
Hooray! Hooray! This is finally mean Trump is finally losing some of his slimy hands grip?
Question, with the ousting of 4 star generals could they be reinstated if they choose with an administration change?
FANTASTIC. THANKS FOR STANDING UP FOR THE PEOPLE.
In Orleans parish the Criminal Clerk is in charge of elections, one of the reason they want Calvin Duncan gone. The criminal records are not automated and Calvin had trouble proving his innocence. Connick and Canizzaro rail roaded a lot of black dudeds. Canizzaro's daughter works for Gov Landry.
So glad Mike Johnson has developed a taste for “crap sandwiches.” Then again, you’d have to if you’re going to work for Trump, which Johnson and most of the GOP do. Constituents be damned. Note to constituents…vote better next time. www.ms.now/news/house-p...
Except for the Repugnican end run around this process. www.commondreams.org/news/republi...
They’ve kicked it down the road until September
Folks that’s the “American Way” Settle it in Congress; give the PEOPLE what they were protesting for: ICE is a disaster in every state! Defunding the unscrupulous government program is a glorious Win for not a Party but a Win for all Americans! God Bless America
And let it be known and NEVER forgotten: there were NO govt. shutdowns OR food stamp cutbacks OR new WARS under President Biden in fact BIDEN ENDED the 20 year war in Afghanistan which should NEVER have started (esp. when they knew Osama bin Laden was NOT there anymore)!!
So people get a paycheck but we don't get to vote.
Yet Speaker Mike described it in the opposite direction with a “straight” (using that term loosely) face.
Are you sure? I read in the late hours ICE was funded.
'ICE' is an abomination that NEVER should have been ideated, let alone become a tool of a fascist party.
Fuck ice. Fuck ice agents.
So...no more masks and raids without warrants? Justice for Goode and Pretti? What did we win?
I wonder did the Conservative justices realize their decision would cause more chipping away our democracy behavior by Republicans ? Also there has to be a nonpartisan way of drawing maps. There has to be.
Next on the agenda…defund DHS altogether and force closure of all ICE detention facilities.
One battle down. Now, keep up the momentum so we win the war.
House passes the Senate-approved DHS funding bill by a voice vote. It funds everything in DHS except ICE/CBP, including TSA, FEMA, Coast Guard, CISA. This ends a 75-day shutdown. Bill now goes to Trump to become law. www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...
Remember when trump promised to not sign a single bill until the Save Act becomes law?
So a complete cave from the GOP, since that’s for sure what the framing would be if this went down the other way around.
Only a start. All of DHS needs to be shut down. They are absolutely part of the assaults on our citizens and our rights
Good job @schumer.senate.gov & @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social. You absolutely thrashed the House GOP and its titular leader.
They are planning to try to get ICE/CPB funding through a reconciliation bill to bypass the Dems… it’s not over…
And every Democrat should be constantly pointing out that the House republicans simply sat on this Senate approved bill for however many days leaving TSA, FEMA, Coast Guard and CISA without pay to just end up approving it. All the while continuing to get their own paychecks.
We would all appreciate MORE "leftist" (🤣) media coverage of this major fail by Maga-Mike. He dragged his feet for 4 weeks, bringing hardship on TSA and air travelers alike. Minimal media coverage of Maga-Mike and Trump abandoning their shutdown position!
Good. Now ABOLISH ICE @democrats.senate.gov @housedemocrats.bsky.social @democrats.org WE DID NOT SAY REFORM.
I'm certain that Trump will be screaming through the night. We need our non-white immigrant friends.
I can see Trump not signing it out of pure spite. I know, what a weird idea!!!
I'm waiting for Trump to veto it because ICE isn't being funded through it.
Credit where credit’s due: this is a huge W for Chuck Schumer.
Didn’t ICE get billions in funds already?
🚨🚨The DHS shutdown is OVER. By voice vote, the House has just approved a Senate-passed DHS funding bill, which funds everything at DHS (TSA, FEMA, etc.) except for ICE and the Border Patrol. The House initially refused to approve this plan 35 days ago.
They did this because the House passed the ICE and Border Patrol funding yesterday Jamie. Why are you leaving that out?
Whew, glad (& pleasantly surprised) to learn that ICE & Border Patrol stayed out of the funding bill. Interesting that it was just a voice vote. I may send an email to my House GOP Rep directly asking if she voted for or against it. The GOP can't seem to understand they can't hide from us anymore.
The orange dumbass may veto it. Stay tuned.
