152nd Kentucky Derby preview, wide-open field at Churchill Downs

The 152nd Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs will run a full 20-horse field this weekend with no single clear favorite and at least six legitimate contenders. Horses have been schooling on the track since March while a backside community of roughly 600 workers manages daily care and race-week preparations. Churchill Downs expects about 400,000 people through its gates, and the executive chef says his team produces Mint Juleps at scale even as a new non-bourbon beverage gains popularity.
