Meanwhile, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has received the U.S. response via Pakistan and is currently reviewing it while preparing an official reply. In short, the situation remains essentially the same as before the war began. The sides are not even close to reaching a real agreement. Therefore, the next move is once again up to Trump: whether he will continue the relatively ineffective blockade, or resume military operations against Iran. At this stage, it appears highly unlikely that the U.S. can force Iran into capitulation—and for Iran, “capitulation” would mean giving up control over the Strait of Hormuz, as well as abandoning enriched uranium and its enrichment program.
