Rubio said “these are innocent bystanders… being held hostage,” adding that “at least 10 civilian sailors have already died.” He said “nations have asked [the U.S.] to help free their ships,” and claimed President Trump “has stepped up… answered the call for help” by creating a “protective bubble under which they can operate and move product”— calling it “the first step at reopening the Strait.”
He repeatedly framed the mission as limited, saying “this is not an offensive operation… there’s no shooting unless we’re shot at first,” while warning U.S. forces will respond with “lethal efficiency.”
