Kenji Ohba, original Space Sheriff Gavan, has died

Today we learn of the sad passing of Kenji Ohba. With roles as Gavan, Battle Kenya, DenziBlue, a wide range of characters and suit work in tokusatsu over many decades, he truly was one of the very best. Our hearts go out to his loved ones. Rest in peace to a legendary hero. #大葉健二

Word just got out that Kenji Ohba, known for his various roles throughout Toku, Battle Kenya, Denji Blue, and Gavan, has passed on May 6th of this year. I'm posting this video to honor his memory. Rest In Peace to a legend.

The word 'Legend' is thrown around way too much, but it would be an appropriate way to describe Kenji Ohba. He was a titan of the Henshin Hero genre and Tokusatsu as a medium. May he rest in eternal peace.

Kenji Ohba, star of Space Sheriff Gavan, has died at the age of 72. What a tragic loss. This man pushed his body to the limit for the sake of his work. What a loss for the world of tokusatsu.

Very sad to learn of Kenji Ohba’s passing. It’s been a great joy watching a lot of his appearances in the shows I’ve been watching currently. He always gave it his all. Thank you for your work and RIP.

The stuntperson is the lifeblood of the henshin hero medium, and no one embodied that more that Kenji Ohba. Every life-and-death stunt he did, every battle he won, and every pose he made was screen fighting action in its purest form. Another JAC legend becomes immortal in us all.

RIP Kenji Ohba, one of my favorite tokusatsu actors. A brilliant example of the power of finding a charismatic stunt performer and putting them at the center of your show. Always moving dynamically, jumping over things that could simply be walked around, and just a joy to see on screen.

I can't believe I'm typing this, but Kenji Ohba has passed away at 76 years old. Not only was he the original Space Sherriff Gavan, but he was also Battle Kenya and DenziBlue, and also worked as a suit actor in Gorenger and the original Kamen Rider. A true legend of tokusatsu, may he rest in peace.

Kenji Ohba, who is most famous for his role as Space Sheriff Gavan, has passed away at 72 years old. Due to collapsing in early 2018, he would stop all acting activities. His last role was voicing Gavan during his appearance in SRW Cross Omega from late 2018 to 2021. RIP 😔

The tokusatsu fandom is in mourning for the loss of one it's great heroes, Kenji Ohba, but American filmgoers probably don't know they also had a brush with his greatness: his cameo as Hattori Hanzo's assistant in KILL BILL:

Absolutely gutted to hear about the passing of Kenji Ohba. Incredible actor. The final scene of the Gokaiger vs Gavan movie is a wonderful send off to his tokusatsu career. Complete with a disembodied voice telling his characters to strike a pose for the kids. Legend. Rest easy king 👑

Kenji Ohba, one of the pinnacle tokusatsu actors has sadly passed away on May 6th. Started out as a suit actor, got to become Super Sentai heroes, his own title hero, and the rest being his ongoing presence we could never escape from. He is a major legacy for toku and will never be forgotten.

Saddened at the passing of Kenji Ohba. An OG Tokusatsu hero, in more ways than one, who was never ashamed of his career, evidenced by how he always gave so much to the genre as the decades went by.
