U.S. strikes two Iran-flagged oil tankers in Gulf of Oman

newsMay 8, 202640360

U.S. forces disabled two Iranian-flagged oil tankers, SEA STAR III and SEVDA, in the Gulf of Oman on Friday, Central Command said. CENTCOM released video showing the empty tankers attempting to sail into an Iranian port in violation of an active U.S. maritime blockade and said U.S. forces fired after earlier exchanges with Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz. The United Arab Emirates said it faced an Iranian missile and drone attack the same day. The strikes escalate tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman, threatening commercial shipping and raising the risk of a broader U.S.-Iran confrontation that could disrupt oil flows.
