Blue Sky Art Show, theme 'Soft'

Blue Sky Art ShowMay 9, 202641220,382

A violet-green swallow perched on a thin branch with a soft, blurry background of greens and blue gave a literal, tactile reading of soft. Others found delicacy in close detail: dew drops on a dandelion about to open. Some works softened entire scenes, like a gap in the reeds on Frensham Great Pond showing water reflections of the sky.

A stunning violet-green swallow perched on a thin branch with a soft, blurry background of greens and blue. The swallow's body is facing away from camera but his head is turned back toward the camera. His crown and upper back are a gorgeous shade of iridescent green. The lower portion of its long wings are violet. It's breast and lower face are white with black on the back of the head. It has black eyes and a black beak.

Macro shot of a dandelion about to open. All of its pappus (feathery white bristles) are close together, all going the same direction rather than spread out like a puff. There are water droplets covering the entire blossom...on the sides, the tips. The background is very dark, contrasting with the white softness of the dandelion.

The photograph shows a close-up of a branch of common lilac (Syringa vulgaris). Visual Characteristics Flowers: Small, four-petaled, soft lilac or lavender. The petals are slightly concave and have a lighter edge, creating a three-dimensional effect. Bright yellow stamens are visible in the center of some flowers. Inflorescence: The flowers are closely packed together, forming a dense raceme or panicle. Buds: Unopened, rounded buds of a more intense purple hue are visible at the top. Leaves: Fragments of dark green, heart-shaped leaves, characteristic of this shrub, are visible in the background.

In this monochrome image, three rhododendron blossoms appear. Two are at the center right and center left; the last is in the lower left corner. All three blossoms are fully in focus, giving a clear view of the delicate veins and texture of the spotted leaves, as well as numerous stamens and anthers. The central two flowers are relatively light, but the third in the left corner is partially in shadow. In the lower right corner, we see the dark surface of a leaf, emphasizing its slightly bumpy texture. Above the flowers is beautiful grey and white bokeh from distant flowers, mixed with darker shadow.
