Obama appears in Austin to boost James Talarico's Senate bid

politicsMay 12, 2026153,142

Former President Barack Obama stopped at La Taqueria in Austin on Tuesday to appear with U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico and gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa. Obama greeted restaurant patrons near the University of Texas campus and asked, "Do you know our outstanding next governor and senator?" as Talarico, who won the Democratic Senate nomination, stood nearby. The visit signals national Democratic investment in Talarico’s uphill effort to flip a Republican-held Texas Senate seat, giving the campaign fundraising momentum and publicity ahead of the general election.

Every time Trump threatens to run again I feel like Obama can too. And kick his ass.

Just look how happy that baby is in the 4th picture.

Guys like Talarico are what Republicans fear the most, so he’ll not only easily carry the Democrats, but he’s also popular with both Independents and many Republicans who have finally come to terms with the depth of evil that’s currently permeating the WH.

So glad to see him out there!! He means so much to so many people, and hopefully, energize all the Democrats and Independents. Such charisma.... 😊👍💙♥️🇺🇲

I do wish Jasmine Crockett had won the Primary. James Talarico lacks the 🔥 she brings to work with every day.

Obama is the draw he always was. Trump and the reTrumplicans hate that.

Austin has so much great food. I wonder what kind of peppers are served in that place.

I so respect both of these men. They are the type of people that make me proud to be a Democrat. We need a hundred of them.

He’s getting the young progressives some much needed press!

This is community. This is caring. This is simplicity.

Obama is doing more presidential stuff than the current office holder and I love it!
