Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits $413.3M domestic

Universal's The Super Mario Galaxy Movie earned $667,000 on Tuesday and pushed its domestic total to $413.27 million. That Tuesday take came from 3,075 locations and represented a 30 percent drop from the previous Tuesday. The modest Tuesday receipts show the film's daily grosses are cooling, but clearing $413 million domestically cements it as a major commercial success for Universal and the Super Mario franchise this year.

I just got back home from watching The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! To be honest, I don't really get any of the criticism that I've heard about. Maybe it's just me but the movie felt longer than only an hour and 40 minutes, and I felt that the game the movie was titled after was adequately represented.

#SuperMarioGalaxyMovie Spoilers in the pictures. Wanted to point out something in the film that I noticed for a couple of weeks now:

One plot detail that I want to give to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie that I only noticed after hearing this in a podcast once about it was on how the film makes some small foreshadowing towards Dry Bowser's reveal. There are two scenes in question that seem to be small upon first viewing it, but more significant after the fact. The first scene in question is right when we get to the Sand Kingdom, but before we see Mario and Luigi doing tricks on their motorcycles. There is a tiny Goomba that is just walking alone in the desert when suddenly a beheaded Dry Bones ends up eating said Goomba. However, because the dead Koopa is just a head with no stomach, the Goomba was able to escape and not get digested. The second scene in the film that foreshadows Dry Bowser's appearance is when Bowser Jr and his dad are going through Planet Bowser on their Clown Car.

Gonna be brutally honest here for a moment. . . lowkey kinda had fun with the Super Mario Galaxy movie. I'm glad I didn't see it in theatres. But watching it at home? It was fun enough. Same as the first. Def not a masterpiece, but 🤷‍♀️ looked and sounded GREAT. That score is *chef's kiss*.

We saw The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! :D Haven’t been in a theatre since before the pandemic (saw most stuff at the drive in before it sadly closed), but our love for Mario brought us back in. We think Mario and Yoshi enjoyed seeing themselves in the film! ^_^ It was fun to watch!

the super mario galaxy movie leaves a lot to be desired. every scene only had like a couple lines and took off just like that. most of the time, it was just flexing high grade, action-packed animation that barely left any kind of substance

It's also kinda crazy that game prices have been relatively inflation-proof for like the last 40 years, thanks to ever-increase sales volumes offsetting that. Super Mario Bros 3 cost $50 in 1990. That's $127 today. Mario Odyssey cost $60 in 2017. That would be $32 in 1990.
