Blue Sky Art Show, theme 'Tall'

photographyMay 23, 20262268,904

This week's #BlueSkyArtShow asked for Tall, and the community ran with it. A cathedral dome reaching up, the Alaska Range above tree line, two giraffes nuzzling, autumn canopy looking up through golden leaves, pitcher plants in a bog, redwoods, a gothic alley, skyscrapers in moody black and white. Photography, painting, sculpture, one word interpreted every way. 200+ entries this week.

A woman walking through a narrow passageway between two tall building on each side. The buildings are dark and in their own shadow but at the end of the passageway, there is sunlight with the silhouette of the person walking through the passage. There are wooden braces between the two buildings to help stabilize them and the passageway. The buildings are Medieval and made of stone. Beyond the passage, there is an even taller building bathed in light across the plaza in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

The day was withdrawing softly from the world when the last fires of sunset climbed the high battlements above the lake. One by one the lower forests fell into cool blue shadow, while the mountain summits still held the sun like ancient altars reluctant to surrender their light. Their gray walls, worn by glaciers and storms beyond counting, blazed suddenly with gold so pure it seemed poured from the very heavens. Below them the lake rested in perfect stillness, receiving the fading mountains into its dark mirror until earth and reflection became one. The pines along the shore stood hushed and motionless, as if listening for the final footfalls of the departing day. There is a sacred moment in the mountains just before night closes its great wings — when the valleys grow dim, yet the peaks still burn with the last remembered light of the sun. Here, in that quiet interval between glory and darkness, the whole wilderness seemed gathered into peaceful farewell.

View of Midtown, Westside in Manhattan across the Hudson from Weehawken, New Jersey. The Hudson has a a ferry, heading south. The water reflects some of the buildings. Many of the buildings are from the newer Hudson yards development. In the left towards the back, you can see the Empire State building. The top of the sky has grayish clouds, and then the lower part of the sky has a kind of dark yellow tint to it.
