Stanley Cup playoff viewership rises, women driving the increase

U.S. Stanley Cup Playoff audiences climbed this postseason, with female viewership rising roughly 66 percent and accounting for the largest share of the increase. The first two rounds became the most-watched in U.S. NHL history, with ESPN telecasts up about 101 percent year over year and Turner Sports' TNT broadcasts up about 6 percent. Storylines such as the Vegas Golden Knights reaching the Final under coach John Tortorella and expanded promotional efforts helped attract new women viewers, a shift that matters to advertisers and the league because it diversifies the fan base and can change sponsorship and broadcast strategies.
