Russell Vought seeks to strip peer review from federal science grants
Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought proposed a "financial assistance" rule to allow political appointees to waive external peer review and directly approve federal research grants. Under the proposal, agencies could sidestep standard external scientific peer review panels, shifting final funding decisions from independent experts to agency leadership and White House political staff. Scientists, public health experts, and congressional Democrats warn the change would politicize which projects receive funding, risk supporting lower-quality or ideologically driven research, and undermine responses to health, climate, and technological threats.
Still...most Americans have never heard of Russell Vought. That's exactly why you should. His latest proposal could fundamentally change who controls scientific research in America...and the consequences could last for generations.
Vought stays under the radar on purpose so he can do more harm. We need to organize to stop this from happening. @50501movement.bsky.social @5calls.org @indivisible.org @repauchincloss.bsky.social @warren.senate.gov @markey.senate.gov www.propublica.org/article/russ...
He is killing science and wasting extreme amounts of money by ending research that is in process so all the money spent to that point will be for nothing.
He is one of the most evil men you've never heard of, which is exactly what he wants! Maintain a low profile so you can keep dismantling everything in the background. He is Project 2025!
So much damage has been done that I question if we will ever see a recovery in US led science/research.
