Backrooms director Kane Parsons, 20, debuts feature

Kane Parsons, 20, made his feature directing debut with Backrooms, an indie horror film that opened this weekend to early critical and audience attention. The two-hour movie leans on game-inspired visuals and a tightly contained structure, with reviewers noting influences from video games and classic horror while praising its distinct identity. Parsons has publicly opposed the use of generative AI in filmmaking and presented Backrooms as a craft-driven project. That matters because a high-profile feature from a 20-year-old signals new young voices shaping genre filmmaking and spotlights hands-on, practical approaches to horror.
