Rob set today's Bird of the Day weekly photo prompt alt theme to Robins and asked participants to tag posts with #ForJanet to join. Sample submissions include an American Robin juggling a berry at Mud Lake, Ottawa on a cold morning, an American Robin standing in grass with fallen petals in Norfolk, Massachusetts photographed May 11, 2026, and a Grey-headed Robin photographed last June in Far North Queensland. Photographers also posted a leucistic American Robin taken with a Canon R5 and 200-800mm lens and winter shots captured with Nikon gear, showing a range of equipment and conditions. The prompt highlights robin species diversity across continents and gives birders and photographers a focused theme for comparing behavior, plumage, and field techniques.

An Egyptian goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca) is walking along a rain-soaked path. This species is native to Africa and is characterised by its distinctive eye markings and brown patches on its breast. In this horizontal color photograph, a Canada goose fills the frame as it swims toward the camera in three-quarter right profile. The water surrounding the goose churns like the wake of a motorboat as it desperately tries to shake a red-winged blackbird from its backside. The blackbird has its claws griping the goose feathers, with its own tail feathers fanned out and its wings up in the air. Red-winged blackbirds are fiercely territorial and will attack nearly anything that ventures too close to their nests. Humans, ospreys, great blue herons, red-tailed hawks, killdeer, and Canada geese are just a few of the species I have witnessed being chased or attacked. On this particular morning, I was walking along the pond bank to photograph a turtle sunning itself on a stump in the water. Several Canada geese nearby began making their way toward the pond when a blackbird suddenly swooped in and landed on one of them. Unfortunately, bushes initially blocked my view of the action. The blackbird, however, seemed determined to stay aboard for the ride. As the goose circled back into the open, I was able to capture a few clear photographs before it finally flapped its wings and dislodged its persistent attacker. I am always amazed when I witness events like this in nature. Most often they occur too far away to photograph, but on this morning I was fortunate enough to document the encounter and come away with a few images of this remarkable display of avian aggression.
