ProPublica profiles raw‑milk seller Mark McAfee after hospital admission
ProPublica profiles Raw Farm owner Mark McAfee and quotes him saying, "I've put a couple kids in the hospital" while calling himself "a pioneer." Raw Farm is the largest raw-milk dairy in the country, and ProPublica reports McAfee has profited from selling unpasteurized milk while customers have become ill and some required hospitalization. Federal and state regulators have struggled to block interstate raw milk sales, leaving public health officials with limited tools to prevent such outbreaks. The profile matters because it links McAfee's business model and public outreach to ongoing foodborne risk and regulatory gaps that affect consumers nationwide.
"I've put a couple kids in the hospital. But!" No, man, let me stop you right there.
"We can't let a few dead children stand in the way of innovation" captures the zeitgeist.
Louis Pasteur was a pioneer This man is a dangerous opportunistic buffoon.
"I've put a couple kids in the hospital, but here's the thing - I made money off of that and continue to do so, so it doesn't matter." >>> What he really meant.
Yup. Ambulance drivers are the only ones who get to keep talking after they say that line.
The platform of the GOP and MAHA and its supporters
Bottom line, raw milk is kind of an IQ test.
What an arrogant prick lol Hope they sue him and win
If people know the risks and consume it anyway, especially feeding it to their children, it’s Darwinian.
Why, in the old days, pioneers would rack up two, three, four half-sized tombstones
When automobile drivers put kids in the hospital, we should take way their keys?
Sure, I’ve caused a few kids to get sepsis and go into organ failure, but look at the crazy number of likes I get on my farm’s Insta.
Pretty sure he is no pioneer in making kids sick. Kind of why we passed child labor laws to avoid kids ending up in hospital.
"I've put a couple kids in the hospital. But it was them or me!"
I always thought Louis Pasteur was the pioneer.
I remember years ago in California there was a raid on a Health food store for raw milk. I thought it was ridiculous at the time as I was completely unaware of the dangers of raw milk. We need better messaging than what we get from the Batshit Crazy segment of America.
Between this, Ivermectin, and anti vax ideology, the voting heard may be well on the way to immunity from Republicans.
Before my visit, Raw Farm's founder Mark McAfee told me he's a trailblazer: “I’ve put a couple kids in the hospital, and they have been sick, but they recovered," he said. "But here’s the thing: I’m a pioneer. And I’m going against the grain here. I’m climbing a mountain they say you can’t climb."
In response to the pattern of outbreaks, McAfee told me he challenged the government's methodology for linking them to his farm. He said standard epidemiology practices, like genetic sequencing, were not proof his farm caused outbreaks; his farm tested for pathogens, so he said the risk was small.
He…he thinks this is making himself look good, doesn’t he
no one is saying you cant shove a sharp stick in your eye, they are saying its not good for you, and then show some concern as to why you would want to shove a sharp stick in your eye
Louis Pasteur climbed that mountain and blazed that trail over a 100 yrs ago. We were all at the summit, and these clowns are just throwing people over the edge.
Pioneering? Does he think people 100+ years ago did not drink raw milk and die from it? Like he invented people dying of listeria and salmonella?
Delusional middle aged men are the problem. You are not Atlas, youre not taking on a great burden, you’re a farmer looking for an angle.
Real Stockton Rush/OceanGate vibes, and we know how that 'trailblazing' ended...
Wouldn't have thought there was a casual way to say "I've put a couple kids in the hospital," but I've learned something new.
love those mavericks willing to sacrifice others for their own gain, ego, profit, whatever 😑 and he isn't making much use of that haccp certification in his bio 🙄, which intended to 'is designed to prevent, eliminate or reduce significant [food] hazards to an acceptable level.'
"I’m climbing a mountain they say you can’t climb." Mount Listeria. bsky.app/profile/anni...
Here’s what an honest statement would say “I’m making more money by selling milk direct from the cow, and money in my pocket is all I care about.”
Yes because it’s called Mount Kidkill.
"I can't let a couple of sick kids get in the way of my heroic self-image."
Sounds like the Oceangate guy, all Mr. "I'm a pioneer watch me break all the rules" and we're all just waiting for the popcorn to pop
Not "can't", but shouldn't. Definitely shouldn't. You can put things in electrical sockets, but you shouldn't. You also definitely shouldn't try to profit by convincing others to gamble on electrocuting themselves, or poisoning in this case. Classic solipsistic dipshit.
A mountain of sick children?
🤦🏾♀️ "I’ve put a couple kids in the hospital, and they have been sick, but they recovered. I’m a pioneer. I’m climbing a mountain they say you can’t climb.”―Mark McAfee, founder of the largest raw-milk dairy in the country, pulling in about $30M a year. www.propublica.org/article/mark... #PINKS
If you read this and still want to be a pioneer go for it.
Read this and actually gasped out loud! 🤯 wtf!!
McAfee's customers are ignoring the first law of Nature: "You do something stupid, you die."
