Broadcasters air commercials during World Cup hydration breaks
Broadcasters cut to paid television commercials during scheduled hydration breaks in the opening World Cup matches, including at least one feed that aired ads while players rehydrated in Mexico City. Hydration breaks are FIFA-approved pauses for player cooling and rehydration, and Mexico City conditions were around 77 degrees Fahrenheit with very low humidity during those matches. Airing ads during those pauses interrupts live coverage of player recovery and highlights the tension between commercial scheduling and continuous sports broadcasting.
world cup hydration breaks are being used for commercials. disappointing but entirely predictable takes away one of my favorite things about watching soccer on television — two 45ish-minute commercial free halves of competition
I was just complaining about this to my family text group and I got this in response from one of our kids
It’s the entire rationale for them! If it wasn’t you’d only have them in certain games where the climate requires it. As it stands if it’s 12 degrees and wet they’ll stop to have a hydration break.
yup gross. I will watch most games on Telemundo. No commercials there. Although I love listening to Ian Darke
Only on Fox, Telemundo they did not break at all
I'm very pro hydration breaks but I think we should be using them for here's what you missed
Not in Germany, here they're used for the announcer to awkwardly bring up cartel violence for some reason (??)
