Blue Sky Art Show, theme 'Curves'

Blue Sky Art ShowJun 20, 202647021,098

A juvenile elephant splashing in a puddle at dusk read the prompt as playful, bodily arc. Others traced earth-scale curves in the Colorado River at Horseshoe Bend, Page, Arizona, while urban and architectural takes arrived as formal spirals, like a black-and-white stairwell seen from above with a metal banister and stone steps.

A wooden canoe floats on a calm mountain lake, viewed from above, surrounded by swirling abstract patterns of blue, turquoise, and white reflections. Evergreen trees and distant mountains frame the shoreline, creating a vibrant, stylized landscape that blends realism with painterly abstraction.

A European robin stands side-on on the edge of a dark metal surface, its orange-red face and breast glowing against a soft green background of blurred foliage. The bird’s posture creates a graceful, flowing curve that runs from the rounded crown of its head, along its gently arched back and down to the tip of its slender tail. This elegant S-shaped line gives the robin a poised, balanced appearance, as if it is leaning slightly forward while remaining perfectly at ease. Fine feather detail is visible on the wings and breast, while the bright background bokeh isolates the bird and emphasises its compact shape and delicate stance.

A wooden boardwalk over the estuary is front and center, then it curves to the left out of sight, also blending with small bodies of water in the estuary. It’s a hazy day, so the curves of the hills and mountains in the distance are fainter and layered. The black and white treatment accentuates the contrasts between the light boardwalk and light reflecting on the water versus the dark vegetation growing in the estuary. Morro Bay, California

A massive driftwood log on a fog-shrouded cobble beach, its weathered grain curving in tight parallel arcs. Behind it, a gravel shoreline recedes into mist beneath a dense wall of trees emerging from the gray.

Landscape photo of a sunset over a frozen Marsh. The moon in the center, a tree on the left and a tree on the right curving under and around the Moon. Orange in the bottom center of the photo in the sky, a purplish color surrounding the moon towards the top cloudless sky. Late sunset right before the dark. Forest Beach, Cape Cod I posted a similar image a few months ago. This is taken at a later light from the same positioning

This photograph shows a black-and-white view from above of a spiral staircase. The structure consists of a metal banister and stone steps.

The two remaining baby Robins sit in the nest they're fast outgrowing; one is facing up and right, the other faces left in the upper third of the photo. Below them is their elaborate brown and tan nest of mostly twigs sitting on a gray drainpipe, angling up and to the left. A small triangle of blurred green tree leaves is seen in the bottom left corner, and the gray brick and outer wall of a home make up the right side.

A black and white photo of an interior curved section of a round building taken from the courtyard. It's two stories with a series of columns. There's a lot of texture on the stone. You can see a little bit of a roof of another section above the second sotry on the left side.

A large weathered piece of driftwood at Bullards Beach in Bandon, Oregon; its sun-bleached wood twisting into a dramatic, circular knot that frames a small "porthole" to the beach behind it. The wood’s texture is deeply silvered and rugged, showing the wear of salt and tide, while surrounding logs lie scattered across the sandy shore. In the background, the vast, light-tan beach stretches toward a line of gentle white surf and the deep blue of the ocean. Above it all, a crisp, cloudless sky meets the horizon, bathing the entire landscape in the bright, clear light of a sunny day.

The Pioneer Mountains rise across the horizon like a long, snow-streaked wall at the edge of the Beaverhead National Forest. In this view, the mountains are still carrying late-season snow on their upper slopes and broad rounded summits, while the dark band of forest below marks the transition from open sage and grasslands to dense stands of conifers climbing the foothills. Above them, the sky becomes the dominant feature. Layers of lenticular clouds—smooth, wind-shaped formations common along Montana mountain ranges—stretch across the deep blue sky in parallel bands. Their flattened, sculpted forms reveal strong winds flowing over the crest of the Pioneers, creating waves in the atmosphere much as water flows over submerged rocks in a stream. A pale gravel road curves through the foreground prairie, drawing the eye toward the mountains and suggesting the vastness of the Beaverhead landscape. The open grasslands, dark forests, snow-covered peaks, and immense sky together capture a defining characteristic of southwestern Montana: long distances, dramatic weather, and a landscape where the mountains seem to begin far away yet dominate everything around them. The scene feels expansive and quiet—spring on the edge of the high country, where winter still lingers on the summits while the valleys below are turning green.
