Today's Bird of the Day is a daily community event with the theme Grey Day, any bird with grey in its plumage; the alternative theme, suggested by Simone, is Showing Off. The gallery foregrounds grey-plumaged waterbirds and display behaviors, with many herons and egrets alongside shorebirds, raptors, and showy songbirds. Expect close-up portraits like a Great Grey Owl, action shots such as a Great Blue Heron landing in shallow water at Longmont, Colorado, and behavioral captures like a male Yellow-headed Blackbird proclaiming territory or a Dalmatian pelican flaunting its giant pouch. Also look for a juvenile reddish egret fishing in North Florida, Victoria’s Riflebird courtship displays, and Huckleberry the African Grey Crowned Crane among the entries.
