Texas board moves to rewrite K‑8 social studies to include Christian stories

The Texas State Board of Education moved Thursday to allow final votes on a rewrite of K-8 social studies lessons and a mandatory reading list that would require Christian stories in classroom readings. Members are expected to vote as soon as Friday on the proposal. A San Antonio board member said the proposal offers a dishonest view of history and opponents say it will downplay lessons on cultural diversity. The measure would add Christian stories to required K-8 readings and reduce emphasis on multicultural instruction. The vote advances a broader curriculum rewrite now nearing its final approvals by the GOP-controlled board.
