NBA to trial single free throw rule in Las Vegas Summer League

sportsJul 2, 20261872

The NBA will test a one-shot free-throw format during the Las Vegas Summer League, NBA Communications said. Under the experiment a player will take a single free throw that is worth the same number of points as the free throws it replaces, so a foul on a 3-point attempt would produce one free throw worth three points. The league issued a graphic explainer about the change as part of Summer League rule experiments. The trial will take place during Summer League games in Las Vegas next week so officials and teams can evaluate the format in live play.
