Karolína Muchová defeats Coco Gauff, reaches Wimbledon final

Karolina Muchova beat Coco Gauff 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(12-10) in a Wimbledon semifinal after a dramatic third-set tiebreak, saving match point en route to victory. The 29-year-old completed the 2 hour 35 minute thriller to reach her first Wimbledon final and her second Grand Slam singles final overall. The win was Muchova's 21st top-10 victory. With the result Muchova guarantees herself a new career-high ranking. At 29 years 312 days at the tournament start, Muchova is the oldest player to reach a maiden Wimbledon singles final since Nathalie Tauziat in 1998. The victory eliminates Coco Gauff from the tournament and sends Muchova into Saturday's championship match.

ESPN mourns Coco Gauff's loss. Coco was the only hope of attracting viewers to the women's final. All the semifinalists are playing great, and I'll be watching. But for casual tennis fans in the US, the switch from Gauff to two Eastern Europeans means at least 1.5 million fewer viewers.
