Christian Pulisic fractures right leg in World Cup loss to Belgium
Landon Donovan spent his entire career fighting allegations that he was soft and branded himself in retirement as a major advocate for players' mental health and has also decided to go scorched earth calling Christian Pulisic a mentally weak loser
Pulling up the ladder behind you is the American Way
Everything else aside, he also has the personality of a plastic shopping bag.
I don’t know what the exact takeaway from this is, but I think it’s interesting that he and Clint Dempsey do not like each other at all.
I think the answer is never podcast I was really hopeful that Landon would just be the bigger person after the whole thing with Pulsic’s dad last summer. That’s me being a dumbass.
"gotta put the team on your back, dog" said donovan about pulisic's broken leg. "even if you see darren sharper, one of the hardest hittingest safeties in the league coming," he added.
in fairness Pulisic hasn’t really shown the ability to overcome any real adversity with minor things that affect him so it could just be that
Our retired soccer players acting like everyone playing now is soft and weak we’ve made it people we are a soccer country.
I am forever vindicated for believing that Clint Dempsey is actually the GOAT American player
Wait, does US Soccer not regularly provide players (much less, ostensible stars) with media training?! I mean, as a fan I don’t actually love the highly sanitized results, but still. I’d be legit shocked to hear that USWNT regulars didn’t do so, though they’re obviously operating at a higher level.
Christian Pulisic suffered a bone bruise and microfracture of his tibia/fibula in USMNT's loss to Belgium, sidelined for several weeks, per sources. With @henrybushnell.bsky.social and @jameshorncastle.bsky.social: www.nytimes.com/athletic/743...
The "Donovan wouldn't have come off" discourse was so stupid. You cannot play well with this. Even Messi with this injury is worse than his healthy backup.
I get people wanting to criticize pulisic for not being tough enough or whatever, but it’s mostly nonsense. The problem with pulisic is he keeps getting injured not that he is insufficiently tough when faced with injuries.
US soccer media/fed treat him the same way media members that don’t watch the W treat that “Charlie Sheen lookin ass” lady
It does feel like an issue that the MNT’s best players are suffering at least one catastrophic injury a year.
Honestly makes it more annoying that he didn't call for a sub sooner
It can be hard to tell the difference between playing hurt and playing injured, but yeah an awful lot of people look really dumb
That's crazy because half the 2015 USWNT and Landon Donovan assured me he quit on the team and took himself out of the game because he felt like it, because he didn't have the heart
The posterboy is made of glass
Kinda sensed this in his play, but it doesn't make me any less disappointed because Pulisic being injured when cresting into form is like water being wet. We need to move on from this kid, and he's still the best player at his position in the player pool.
New solution we gotta bring back those milk commercials because our athletes need more calcium
In defense of Christian Pulisic: The option presented to him wasn’t to tough it out and finish the match, it was to put the USMNT at a disadvantage by playing ineffectively while injured with a microfracture. Being unable to make attacking runs at speed nor deliver crosses is not helping anyone.
Was he doing any of that before he got injured?
Getting hurt was just the cherry on top of an underwhelming tournament performance. I dont think anyone should be criticizing him for coming out of the game after getting injured, but everything before that is certainly deserving.
