G1 Climax 36 night one: Callum Newman tops Yuya Uemura

Callum Newman defeated Yuya Uemura in an A Block match on night one of New Japan Pro Wrestling's G1 Climax 36 at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on 7/11/2026. Newman landed a running shotgun dropkick during the bout despite carrying a shoulder injury suffered at Dominion last month. Earlier this year Newman denied Uemura a New Japan Cup win, a result that fed into Newman’s shock IWGP Heavyweight Championship victory; he has since lost that title. A posted event rundown rated Newman vs Uemura at four and one-quarter stars. The victory kicks off Newman’s A Block campaign on night one and extends the recent competitive storyline between the two men.

One of the better efforts I've seen from Tsuji. He and Takeshita have good wrestling chemistry. Not sure if Callum is 100% yet, but he's a special talent. Yuto Ice is so fun. Shooter vs ZSJ might be my surprise second best of the night. Good fun all around.
