Today’s Bird of the Day is the Birds & Flowers theme, with an alternate theme of New Life set by Rob. Contributors are posting birds posed with blooms and recent broods, from close-up hummingbirds at zinnias and crocosmia to larger scenes like a Sandhill Crane among asters and three cygnet Mute Swans resting in the sun. A recently fledged Willow Warbler perches on the weathered top of a moss-covered wooden fence post, softly illuminated by warm morning light. Its olive-brown upperparts, pale yellow underparts, and fluffy juvenile feathers give it a rounded, slightly scruffy appearance, while a few wispy down feathers still cling to the top of its head. The young bird gazes alertly to the right with a dark, inquisitive eye and a fine orange bill, as delicate stems of hedge bedstraw arch gracefully above and around it. The background melts into a smooth blend of green and blue, isolating the fledgling in sharp focus and highlighting the quiet beauty and vulnerability of a bird taking its first steps into independence.

Going with the alt theme of #NewLife today. This female Rufous Hummingbird made her nest in a maple tree just above a boardwalk at Nisqually NWR. 🪶 Thanks to @diplopodracer.bsky.social for telling me where it was. #BirdOfTheDay
