Elon Musk says Grok Imagine will make an AI 'Odyssey' film

generalJul 22, 2026533,041

Elon Musk said Grok Imagine will produce a “full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer” before the end of the year, writing that claim in a post on X and linking to a three-minute clip users said Grok Imagine generated showing Odysseus with the nymph Calypso. Musk made the vow while continuing to criticize Christopher Nolan’s recent Odyssey adaptation, which stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and Anne Hathaway as Penelope, and which Musk attacked over casting choices including Lupita Nyong'o and Elliot Page. Nolan’s film opened to strong commercial and critical results, earning US$264 million worldwide in its opening weekend and a 97 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Nolan has pushed back against pre-release backlash and warned that AI will not “replace human beings wholesale and human creativity,” calling that idea nonsense and saying the technology has been rejected by the public. Musk’s post follows earlier reposts in which he denounced Nolan’s integrity and sought to rally critics of the casting; the Grok Imagine clip is the clearest sign he plans to use his AI tools to deliver an alternative adaptation within months.

The funniest thing about this, outside of the demand to see a "historically accurate" movie about Greek gods and sea monsters, is that Mel Gibson's Braveheart was notorious for being one of the most historically inaccurate movies ever made -- because it was largely based on a fictionalized poem.

Elon Musk fan boy tweets: I want Elon Musk to give Mel Gibson $100 million to film an Odyssey adaptation with painstakingly historically accurate ships, armour, weapons, and casting, with all dialogue taken straight from the original poem and delivered in Homeric Greek.

Elon Musk then says "I'm down," prompting MAGA grifters to lose their shit.

Fun fact: The three main battles in Braveheart spanned 17 years in reality, from 1297 to 1314. William Wallace died in 1305.

Mel Gibson is gonna put $50MM of it straight up his nose

I’m actually super excited not to see this!

look, unpopular opinion alert, but I bet the 100 million dollar Elon-funded Mel Gibson Odyssey would be deranged in a FASCINATING way. You know his ego would demand that he go off-script from whatever Grok and Elon cooked up, wind up with something like Mediterranean Apocalypto. Lawsuits would fly.

And the thing that comes through so loud in all their entitled whining is how much they want the safest, most mediocre slop imaginable. Can you imagine if your most exciting fantasy was inventing a robot that could turn Golden Corral into a movie? It’s depressing.

nice to see elon ready to burn $100mln because he'd rather do that than give anything to the federal government...

bro-bro ma 🌊2

also considering the odyssey they hated had a budget around $250M well, good luck with 100M

Honestly, I think the funniest thing about this is saying to deliver the lines in "Homeric Greek" Them mothafuckas don't like reading subtitles but bout to do it for a whole movie in Greek? Yeah ok.

Even funnier: revealing this to them only leads to them doubling down, because white is the only historical accuracy they know.

have fun making and marketing an Epic (used literally here) on a budget of 100M.

It’s hilarious that the richest person in the world is losing his actual mind that a film starring an excellent, diverse cast, is also critically acclaimed, AND doing very well at the box office. metro.co.uk/2026/07/22/e...
