Bird of the Day is a daily community event; today's main theme is #FabulousWaders with an alternate theme #Speckled, set by Helen Bennett. The gallery spotlights wading birds in shorelines and marshes, with quiet portraits and feeding or action shots, plus speckled-plumage entries. Standout waders include an avocet wading along the shoreline, a curlew searching for food on a beach, and a black crowned night heron caught mid-yawn. Ah, lovely image Alan.... my favourite speckled bird. 👏✨🫶 They are really shy birds but I've managed to get the trust of a couple that live around the garden. In this awful drought they've needed help so I've been soaking mealworms for them and putting out apples.

Beautiful shot. While our neighbours from 12-17 were mostly from Saskatchewan - the scenery of rural BC by a lake and the crib playing. and group cooking experiences and community of there they could not bring the birds. 1990 was when I finally replaced my first camera claimed by a glacier...

I was lucky enough last year to see the amazing Spoon-billed Sandpiper in Thailand. This is my #birdoftheday #fabulouswaders although I think it is really my bird of the century. Amazingly I was the only person there and had to find it amongst thousands of waders. Amazing place. #birds #birding
