Blue Sky Art Show, theme 'Chaos'

photographyAug 22, 202635313,192

The Blue Sky Art Show is a weekly community event asking contributors to interpret the theme Chaos. Today's gallery runs from botanical clutter to dramatic wildlife and weather, with images framed as controlled disorder, kinetic flocks, coastal turbulence, and abstract decay. Standouts include a Saskatchewan photograph of thousands of Snow Geese taking flight, a garden bed of bright Cosmos or Mexican Aster celebrated for its rambunctious bloom, and an atmospheric capture of a decaying thistle wrapped in heavy mist. Look for rocky waves along the Sonoma Coast, a harassing red-winged blackbird chasing an osprey, and a vivid Grand Prismatic Spring interpretation under the Chaos hashtag.

This garden is not quite wild but "controlled chaos" And it is lovely to behold! From my 2022 album. I don't know why I never posted it before! #BlueSkyArtShow #chaos #ECK #dailyflowers 🌱 #flowerreport #bloomscrolling #ColorADay #GreenSat

I tried a wild bed for 3 years. A difficult spot because it was shady but gave up because it was gradually being dominated by 2 plants... creeping buttercup and hedge woundwort. Its now a "hot" bed with oranges, yellows and reds and actually attracts more insects.

Val in Real Life3

Fantastic. We're working on rehabilitating an abused yard into a delicious natural garden. Hopefully ours will look like that in a few years.

Beautiful! Is this your garden? 💚

I love controlled chaos in the garden.

A lovely shot! ‘Controlled chaos’ is what I am aiming for. And it’s teaming with life

You say it's "chaos" - but they fly very close to each other without ever actually hitting or even interfering with each other. Doesn't seem very chaotic to me.

Beautiful photo of the snow geese! Every autumn, there's a snow goose festival near where I live. I've never been. I know they serve snow goose to tourists. Do you eat goose for Christmas in the UK?

The World in Bloom

@simonecannon.bsky.social

A bed of bright Cosmos, aka Mexican Aster, since they originated in the meadowlands of Mexico. They are easy to grow and actually prefer and bloom more profusely in poor soil. Their open, pollen-rich centers make them favorites for bees and butterflies #BlueskyArtShow #Chaos #BloomScrolling #Flower

This morning my bee garden was full of pollinators and this guy had loaded his underbelly with pollen to the point where I thought he might be too heavy to fly!

A whole gang on one leaf 🪲🌿😎 #BlueSkyArtShow #chaos #ColorADay #GreenSat #Flowers #MacroMonday #Photography #Art #Nature #bloomscrolling #ECK #helittleThings #BugSky

A close-up of several young bug larvae, probably nymphs of the green rice bug. The insects have a rounded, dark brown to black, glossy body with a pattern of pale yellow, white and slightly reddish spots on their backs. Around ten of these nymphs are clustered closely together on lush green leaves. On the left-hand edge of the picture, purple lavender inflorescences can be seen, with a single yellow flower in the background.

This is a terrific photo with a little train of wanna be ladybug, cousins. I'm not particularly fond of all bugs but these are really interesting. I couldn't find the little red dots on them with my phone

That is amazing to see never seen this kind of birds here. Love photo Rina.❤️

The rocky coastline near Bodega Bay photographed from a grassy hill above. There are huge rocks coming out of the water and many smaller ones. Waves are crashing. The foreground is grass. The sky is covered in clouds with bits of blue.

I've come to the conclusion that red-winged blackbirds are the chaos agents of the sky. 😀 Here's one that I watched harass this osprey for quite some time. I've also seen them chase hawks, owls, and herons. #BlueSkyArtShow #Chaos #BirdOfTheDay #ColourfulCharacters #Birds

A osprey flies with wings spread wide in a light gray sky. Above it a red-winged blackbird flies just behind it, also with wings spread wide.

I've been dive-bombed by RWBs many a time.

Anders Beer2

Such a great shot. I have similar ones of them chasing herons in Concord MA. They're like the biker gangs of the skies :)

I would be extremely aggravated, were I the osprey.

I've seen Blackbird mob attack Red Kites.

lorrita54.bsky.social1

The osprey was probably too close to the rwb's nest. We live on a small lake and see it every day. They'll attack bald eagles too. Little birds don't fear them at all.

Eliana Selzer1

I've always thought their calls sounded a lot like a phone ringing.

Black and white closeup of a decaying thistle plant, its stems, leaves and blossoms all drooping and twisted. It is misting heavily so, the slightly illuminated fine water droplets can be seen in the background. Overall, it gives a creepy, prickly image.

A bull thistle in full summer bloom. Norwich VT, July 2026 #ECK #Photography #PhotographersOfBluesky #ColorADay #GreenSat #BlueskyArtShow #summer

This image shows a bull thistle growing on a spiky green stalk, surrounded by other greenery. The stalk rises from the bottom center of the image, angling toward the left as it climbs, and terminating in a spiky, bright purple blossom in the upper third of the image just left of center. The stalk is covered with spiky green leaves and fine hairs that catch the late afternoon sun, giving the stalk a whitish glow. At the top of the stalk is first a spiky greenish grey bulb, and above that the crowning purple spikes of the blossom. Other stalks also rise from the bottom of the frame to the left and right edges, slightly blurry due to shallow depth of field, and drawing attention to the central stalk. The image is finished by pleasing green and black bokeh from distant plants and trees.

Thistles aren’t exactly my favorite plants, and I’ve definitely picked up a scratch or two from them over the years 🤣. But then they bloom in such a lovely color, and how can you stay mad at them? This is a pretty one! 🌸✨
