Bird of the Day is a daily community theme set today by Helen Bennett, called Thin Perches, asking for birds perched on a perch narrow relative to their size. Gallery entries focus on precarious balance and acrobatics, from tiny hummingbirds and long-tailed tits on spindly stems to larger raptors and corvids finding purchase on thin twigs. Concrete examples include a Linnet at Lamplighters Marsh NR in Bristol, a male Stonechat wobbling on a slender dried stem, and an Asian Little Green Bee-eater photographed in Thailand. Other standout images show a yellow-headed blackbird using two cattail ends while carrying dragonflies, a kestrel perched on a twig, and multiple Reed Buntings that also fit the alt BuntingBirds theme.
