Victor Muñoz smashed a thunderous equaliser in the 82nd minute to rescue a 2-2 draw for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest at Anfield. Forest opened on 24 minutes after Igor Jesus held up play and Morgan Gibbs-White set up Ndoye to score. Liverpool thought Florian Wirtz had levelled but VAR ruled the goal out for an offside by Jeremie Frimpong, before Cody Gakpo delivered a low cross that Alexander Isak tapped in to make it 1-1. Forest retook the lead when substitute Liam Delap’s quick throw led to Neco Williams being felled by Alisson, and Gibbs-White converted the penalty. Munoz, a 23-year-old Spain international signed from Osasuna for £34 million in June, had started the match and until his finish had completed none of his five dribble attempts, but his late spin and strike produced the equaliser. The goal continued Munoz’s immediate impact after he forced a last-week penalty against Newcastle and underlined Liverpool’s reliance on their summer signings as the club finalises the high-profile signing of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.
