Sal Stewart reaches 30 homers, joins elite rookie company

CHICAGO Sal Stewart hit his 30th home run in the top of the third inning at Wrigley Field on Saturday, a two-run drive to left-center off Kevin Gausman that cut the Cubs' four-run lead in half. The 22-year-old Reds rookie also has a Major League-leading 104 RBIs, making him the only Cincinnati rookie ever with a 30-homer, 100-RBI season and the second Reds rookie with 30 homers after Hall of Famer Frank Robinson slugged 38 in 1956. Stewart surpassed Jim Greengrass' 100 RBI club rookie mark from 1953 when he reached 101 RBIs on Friday. There are now 14 MLB rookies all-time to post 30 homers and 100 RBIs in a season; each of the last nine to do it since the Rookie of the Year Award began in 1947 went on to win Rookie of the Year. The four previous players to reach those totals in the Wild Card era since 1995 are Pete Alonso (2019), Aaron Judge (2017), José Abreu (2014), and Albert Pujols (2001). If Stewart finishes the season leading the majors in RBIs, he would join Ted Williams (1939) and Walt Dropo (1950) as the only rookies to lead a league in RBI.

I fully anticipate the writers to screw this up because they 1. Hate the Reds (See Votto and silver sluggers) 2. They cream themselves for a 2md baseman who can get to the ball just a little quicker, nevermind sub 300 slugging % the last month.
