Blue Sky Art Show, theme 'Undulating'

Blue Sky Art ShowSep 12, 202635716,745

Sunset waves reflected molten light across the sea, framing the literal undulation of water on the horizon. Others read the theme as landscape curves, from vast sand dunes in Morocco to a dramatic black-and-white flight of undulating stone steps rising through Valletta, Malta.

A photo of waves on the sea reflecting a sunset over the land on the horizon.

Undulating wavy oak tree branches in the morning fog. Due to the fog, they appear as varying shades of grey and create an abstract pattern of waviness. Cerro San Luis mountain in San Luis Obispo, California.

Landscape scene of a field, sloping up to a treeline. Mountains on the same slope. A small house on the middle left. Fluffy flowing clouds. I softened the image to try to meld the landscape into a more cohesive flow.

A dramatic black-and-white photograph captures a sweeping, undulating flight of ancient stone steps in Valletta, Malta, rising steeply between tall, weathered buildings. The broad staircase dominates the image, its uneven limestone steps stretching from the foreground and narrowing as they climb towards the sky. Several slender black metal handrails run up the centre and along the sides, following the changing levels of the steps. On either side, tightly packed historic Maltese buildings rise several storeys high. Their pale limestone faรงades are heavily textured and worn, with peeling surfaces, shuttered windows, balconies and ornate wrought-iron railings. On the left, a particularly striking window is protected by a heavy iron grille, while projecting balconies cast deep shadows across the wall. The architecture seems to lean and overlap above the narrow stairway, creating a powerful sense of enclosure. At the top, the buildings frame a small opening of sky filled with dramatic clouds. The absence of colour emphasises the contrast between brilliant limestone highlights and deep architectural shadows, giving the scene an atmospheric, almost timeless quality. The sweeping perspective of the steps draws the eye upward, making the staircase feel like a journey through Vallettaโ€™s layered history, each worn stone and weathered wall telling its own story. And finally, our picture is finished with a simple white border frame.

A black and white photo showing just the curved backs and flowing manes of three white ponies stood alongside each other. The pony in the foreground is stood facing towards the right with the one behind facing left. There is another pony slightly further away facing towards the right with it's head bent down. The ponies are in a dark tree lined field. The tops of the trees undulating against a grey sky

This is a very close photo of layers of mushrooms, growing on top of each other inside a a little tree hollow. They are packed TIGHT in there. Maybe Jack O Lantern mushrooms, not sure. They arenโ€™t too orange, more golden. Cheers

Second outing for this photograph I took in the Red Squirrel reserve at Formby. The ground was so undulating it was fun to walk there. Didn't see any squirrels this time but have seen numerous on previous visits. Image shows a pine forest with sunlight pushing through creating dramatic shadows on an undulating forest floor of smooth ground with dropped pine needles.

A view looking west (just beyond Milecastle 39) along Hadrian's Wall, Northumberland, England on a cloudy July day. The remains of the stone wall follow the contours of the hills in the rolling countryside. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that marked the northern frontier of the Roman Empire for nearly 300 years. Construction began on the orders of Emperor Hadrian in AD 122. It took three legions, each consisting of 5,000 men as little as, perhaps, a decade to build. It runs for 73 miles from coast to coast (Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway) to with a 25 mile extension south through Cumbria. The area is known for its dramatic undulating landscape and well-preserved Roman forts. The iconic tree featured in the lower centre of the frame is the Sycamore Gap Tree, famously featured in the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. This sycamore tree was illegally felled in an act of vandalism in September 2023. Two men were arrested and charged with criminal damage. They were each given a prison sentence of four years and three months.

A dramatic close-up of the undulating curves of a giant taro leaf in the jungle in Tahiti. The leaf is a rich green with white veins that also undulate. The spot below the leaf is black. There's another taro leaf on the left side. and some small ferns in the top right corner.

At sunrise, Bowman Lake lies nearly motionless beneath the dark outline of Glacierโ€™s mountains. The peaks remain deep in blue shadow, their ridges and summits sharply silhouetted against a sky beginning to brighten in the east. Broken clouds spread across the morning sky, their undersides still blue-gray while their edges catch the first pale silver and warm yellow light. The calm surface of the lake mirrors the clouds with remarkable clarity, turning the foreground into a second sky. A narrow band of reflected sunlight stretches along the distant waterline, marking the gradual arrival of morning while the mountains and forest remain in shadow. The result is a distinctly early-morning landscapeโ€”cool, still, and dominated by deep blues, with the first sunlight appearing quietly behind the mountains.

Partial view of a wavy soft-edged warpy mirror mounted on a concrete wall. It's got donors' names etched faintly into it and reflecting the windowed doors and windowed walls above, as well as the concrete ground of the courtyard. The doors are reflecting the walled courtyard with a greenish tinge. The windowed walls above are a blue strip showing the sky through white beams of the skylight interior.
