The 78th Emmy Awards take place Monday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles with Mariska Hargitay hosting and the telecast airing live on NBC and streaming on Peacock at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific. HBO Max’s emergency-room drama The Pitt arrives as a returning frontrunner after winning best drama, best actor for Noah Wyle and best supporting actress for Katherine LaNasa last year; the show is expected to repeat in those categories and could pick up three more wins. Noah Wyle is nominated for three trophies this year and The Pitt’s ensemble earned four supporting actress nominations and three supporting actor nominations. Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay has eight wins from earlier craft ceremonies and can add up to six more tonight, a total that would break the single-season comedy record of 13 Emmys set last year by The Studio. Hacks leads comedy noms for its fifth and final season with Jean Smart favored for another best actress in a comedy win. Other contenders called out include Rhea Seehorn for Pluribus and Zendaya for Euphoria, while Harrison Ford is among the favorites for best supporting actor in a comedy for Shrinking.
