George Russell holds off Max Verstappen to win Azerbaijan Grand Prix

George Russell held off Max Verstappen by 0.196 seconds to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku after a tense, crash-filled finale. Two late safety car periods, first triggered by Alex Albon's lap 30 crash and then by a pile-up at the restart when Franco Colapinto hit Pierre Gasly and collected Lando Norris and others, bunched the field for an 11-lap sprint to the flag. Verstappen had climbed from eighth on the grid but was stuck behind Oscar Piastri early and could not find a clear way past Russell in the closing laps. Russell lost turbo and some electrical boost after backing off for yellow flags following Valtteri Bottas's Turn 15 crash, and feared Verstappen would overtake on the run to the line, but held on by just under two tenths. Red Bull's Isack Hadjar returned from a broken wrist to take third on the podium, while Kimi Antonelli recovered from 16th to finish fifth, cutting his championship lead over Russell to 66 points. Russell thanked his team after the race for their support through a difficult period as he claimed his first win since the Austrian Grand Prix.

This race was starting to dangerously become another absolute borefest, but the mid-race clashes saved it. George never really had a danger of losing the lead, but the Red Bulls getting strong and closer was intriguing, GG for the double podium. Alpine, McLaren...bruh. So stoked for Sepang! #F1
