Bird of the Day, theme 'EFG'

Bird of the Day is running the theme EFG, birds whose first name begins with E, F, or G, with an alternate theme Paridae. Entries show shorebirds and garden favorites, from herons and geese to finches and tits. Look for a great egret picking up a floating feather at sunrise, a goldfinch basking in warm sunshine, and a Eurasian blue tit that fits both the EFG and Paridae prompts. Other standout posts include a glossy ibis feeding at RSPB Ham Wall and gannets photographed at Bempton Cliffs. Follow the hashtag #EFG and #BirdOfTheDay to view or join in.

The Galah can be easily identified by its rose-pink head, neck and underparts, with paler pink crown, and grey back, wings and undertail. Galahs have a bouncing acrobatic flight, but spend much of the day sheltering from heat in the foliage of trees and shrubs. Huge noisy flocks of birds congregate and roost together at night.
