natureOct 9, 20261003,225

Bird of the Day is running the theme Waders, with an alternate theme of Garden Birds. The gallery features wading shorebirds and marsh species: curlews at the ocean edge, egrets and herons in golden-hour silhouettes, and smaller shorebirds like sanderlings and least sandpipers. Specific entries include a Eurasian Curlew standing at the edge of the ocean, a great egret captured hunting in golden-hour light, and a Sanderling eyeing a ladybug on the Lake Huron shoreline. Other submissions show black-winged stilts in Thailand, bar-tailed and black-tailed godwits, royal spoonbills, dunlin, white ibis, and various plovers and lapwings.
