Bird of the Day, theme 'JKLM'

natureOct 15, 20261717,387

Bird of the Day is a daily community event; today's main theme is JKLM, bird species starting with J, K, L, or M, with an alternate theme of Grey, birds that show grey in their plumage. The gallery today is heavy on field and wildlife photography showing side profiles, in-flight shots, and close-ups of small songbirds and larger waders and raptors. Expect Kingfisher images including a kingfisher shot at Magor Marsh, a Little Grebe from Clot Del Galvany, a sandhill crane coming in for a landing, and playful entries like an excited Killdeer. Other named contributions include kestrels, a Gray Kingbird, a Red Kite, linnet, limpkin, mallard frenzy, and various grey-plumaged herons and shrikes.

Today's #BirdOftheday Alt Theme is #Grey, birds with grey in its Plumage. I don't care what anyone says. Pigeons are so pretty. This beauty is a rock pigeon. #birds #photography #birdsofbluesky

Rock pigeon with gray and white feathers, an iridescent swatch of green and pink at its neck, and red eyes in flight against a blue sky.

They're lovely, charming birds that we turned our backs on because we no longer found them useful. Pigeons deserve more respect.

Here's a bird with grey in his plumage.

I love them! Their feathers are iridescent and they are sweet! Doves are related and no one hates Doves.

I have always thought pigeons were very pretty. When I was a kid the older boy across the street, I was in elementary school he was in high school I think, kept a bunch of different pigeons in his backyard, always enjoyed the variety.

Sarah Writtenhouse1

I love pigeons too. Tough little guys.

Karen Wisewoman©1

Agree. I love watching them fanning their wings to balance themselves while searching for berries in the autumn trees in our garden.

#Birds Rob Crank @robcrank68.bsky.social says today's #BirdOfTheDay Alt Theme is #Grey, birds with Grey in its Plumage. An American Wigeon having a good stretch. The Wigeons are gathering in small groups, feeding like there's no tomorrow. They will soon be gone, migrating for warmer climes.

That is a wonderful photo Amy ✨️ 💛

Great shot. They are one of my fav birds. 🦅 It must be amusing to see that many of those birds together and hear them conversing. They seem to constantly chatter with one another.

The Grey Heron photo is beautiful. We don't this specie in Canada, but have a Great Blue Heron. Different colouring but looks similiar. Thank you for sharing. 🙏📸
