England proposes £100 fine for playing loud music on buses
What no-one will write about Burnham's "headphone dodgers" plan is that it's partly a neurodiversity issue. I wrote this open.substack.com/pub/maybeima...
Phone manufactures ditching standard headphone jacks in phones is worthy of a mention as to why more people are going loud on public transport.
Valuable article, thanks. Saving this for proposed disability & neurodivergence working group for the housing association that houses me. I don’t think they every took my hyperacusis seriously and I moved home to get away from neighbour’s barking dog that triggered me to multiple meltdowns.
Per fi se’n comença a parlar…
Burnham launches crackdown against people ‘blasting music’ on public transport Bus passengers who vape, drop litter or play loud music could face fines of up to £100 under new guidance issued by the government Story ⤵️ www.politics.co.uk/2026/10/andy...
It’s a shame fines are needed, but we are where we are…
Welcome obviously but I just don't get how this type of politics can co-exist with a commitment to greater devolution
Political cowardice to imply that the issue is teenagers rather than the real problem: toddlers with iPads.
#BBCNews - People playing loud music on buses could face £100 fine www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Good luck in trying to enforce that.
From whom? Who exactly is going to actually enforce this?
I’m in agreement but how is this going to be enforced? You’d have to employ 1-2 monitoring staff for every single bus, tram car, and train carriage
People playing loud music on buses could face £100 fine Let's Fix That! the Over sight is Shocking! People playing loud music on buses and Trains could face £100 fine. Let's make Travel Relaxing Again!
Too little, too late. The only measure that will tackle this scourge is public gungings, 1990s-CBBC-style. Any politician not prepared to say this is not serious about the problem.
I mean, this is one area where I wouldn't be overly averse to bring back the stocks and pelting people with rotten veg, cost of veg aside, but...Yay!
Burnham’s not really countering the accusation that the “M” in PM stands for Mayor. Which increasingly highlights his complete silence on matters of national importance such as far right attacks on immigrants, critical national infrastructure and the RNLI.
I look forward to the Freedom of Information request in five years' time that reveals that not a single person has been fined. Unenforceable!
Given that this is already in place for trains and hasn’t stopped it, I’m not optimistic.
