A Vanity Fair excerpt from Matthew Cole’s Princes and Thieves reports Dutch intelligence agents recovered screenshots from Jared Kushner’s iPhone showing he logged into a UAE bank account that had received hundreds of millions of dollars from a bank in Azerbaijan. The MIVD hackers exploited a vulnerability in Kushner’s iPhone X in early 2018 that let them capture images of his screen as he used the device. Vanity Fair says the Dutch intelligence team concluded the Azerbaijan-linked account was an intelligence mystery to unravel and that Kushner, UAE ruler Mohamed bin Zayed and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman converged on overlapping political goals at the time. The excerpt also reports Kushner’s family business faced a billion-dollar loan on 666 Fifth Avenue while these contacts and transfers occurred. An opinion piece included in the coverage, by Donald K. Sherman, argues that Kushner should face congressional review of his foreign-policy role in light of such revelations.
