Ukraine strikes Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery, sparking large fires

A suspected Ukrainian drone attack set multiple fires and caused explosions at the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in Samara Oblast on Friday, with videos showing towering columns of black smoke over the Rosneft-owned complex. Rosneft says the Novokuibyshevsk refinery can process about 8.8 million tonnes of crude oil per year and produces jet fuel as well as petrol and diesel; the company has owned the site since 2007. Ukrainian forces had previously struck the facility in August, a strike President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said deprived Russia of export revenues; Russian Telegram channels reported a new blaze after a drone warning and series of explosions this time. The Wall Street Journal reported that Kyiv had paused refinery attacks for two weeks under pressure from the United States, a pause that reportedly lasted until after the US midterm elections scheduled for 3 November; US President Donald Trump has repeatedly urged Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian refineries. Multiple monitoring channels and social media posts show the fires and report dozens of hotspots and damage to processing units and storage, though official Russian damage assessments have not been published. This attack resumes strikes on Russian energy infrastructure and could further reduce fuel output and export income from one of the Volga region’s largest refineries while prompting renewed operational and security measures at other facilities.

Russia has spent the week hammering Dnipro, striking our power station and murdering civilians waiting for a train. This morning, Russia’s Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery is reportedly ablaze following a Ukrainian drone attack. Keep hitting the refineries fuelling Putin’s war, burn them all🔥
