Slate details a new House Judiciary Committee Democratic report saying a growing body of evidence shows Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women in the mid-to-late 1990s and that he used the FBI and DOJ to suppress evidence. The report compiles allegations from five women, four named and one anonymous, and connects Epstein’s network to Elite Model Management and its founder John Casablancas, noting the Look of the Year competition featured competitors aged 14 to 19. Democrats in the report call for a special counsel to investigate possible wrongdoing by Trump and officials who may have covered up files. Roughly half of the Epstein files remain unreleased; Rep. Gabe Evans told a radio host the files had been released even though the Justice Department has published about half. Activists and some lawmakers are renewing demands for full public release of the remaining files and for prosecutions of anyone who suppressed them. The report was released the week before midterm elections, a timing Democrats portray as exposing alleged corruption and cover-up by the administration.
