Bird of the Day, theme 'Backlit'

A grey crowned crane seen from behind, standing beside shallow water with a circular spray of golden crown feathers brightly illuminated, read the theme as ornamental halo lighting. The theme asked for any picture with the light behind the bird. Others favoured silhouette and motion, like a barn owl hovering at Lunt Meadows, or a robin lit through forest leaves. The alternate theme, Finches, appeared as a juvenile goldfinch (alt).
