Denmark vote leaves Social Democrats with weakest result since 1903

politicsMar 25, 202654

Denmark's ruling Social Democrats plunged to about 21.8% of the vote, their weakest result since 1903. The party remained the largest, but the left bloc won 84 seats, six short of a 90-seat majority, while the right bloc won 77 seats. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen won international praise for handling the Greenland crisis and the war in Ukraine, but voters punished her over domestic issues. Because the center-right rival performed worse, Frederiksen could still secure a third term if she builds a cross-bloc coalition.
