Anthropic wins preliminary injunction against Pentagon blacklist

techMar 26, 202671

A federal judge in San Francisco granted Anthropic a preliminary injunction blocking the Department of Defense supply-chain designation. Judge Rita F. Lin said the designation amounted to First Amendment retaliation for the company's disagreement with the government. Anthropic sued after contract talks with the Pentagon collapsed and the DOD branded the company a security risk. The injunction stops the Pentagon from enforcing the blacklist while the lawsuit proceeds, and it limits the government's use of supply-chain rules against tech firms.
