Last day to register to vote in England ahead of May 7 local elections

Voters in England must register by 11.59pm on 20 April to take part in local elections on 7 May. Registration takes minutes at gov.UK/register-to-vote and requires a name, address and National Insurance number. Voters must show an accepted form of photo ID at polling stations, and applications for a voter authority certificate close at 5pm on 28 April. If you cannot attend in person you can apply for a proxy or postal vote, and the results on 7 May will be watched as Reform UK's Nigel Farage faces record-low approval ahead of the contests.
