Plaintiffs vow Supreme Court appeal after Fifth Circuit upholds Ten Commandments law

The en banc U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled 9-8 to uphold Texas' law requiring posters of the Ten Commandments in public school classrooms. The court concluded the statute does not violate the Establishment Clause and permitted statewide classroom displays. Plaintiffs include multifaith families and the American Civil Liberties Union, and they will ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review the ruling. The ACLU said the decision "tramples those rights" of families "to choose how, when and if to provide their children with religious instruction."
